Benzoic acid is a mono-functional, aromatic acid, which is widely used as a building block for the synthesis of alkyd resins. It is also used as a preservative in select industrial applications. When used as a component of alkyd resins, it improves gloss, hardness and chemical resistance. When used as a preservative, benzoic acid increases storage stability and reduces corrosion for emulsions, polishes, waxes, paints and liquid detergents.

Benzoic acid may cause eye burns, blindness, and may be harmful if swallowed. Because of this, all personnel involved in the manufacturing, transfer, loading and unloading are required to wear specific protective clothing and safety equipment. Standard gear used in the safe handling of this chemical include hard hat, goggles, safety boots, dust masks, long sleeve coveralls, and long cuff leather gloves.
Benzoic Acid Flake is compatible with stainless steels and aluminum. Benzoic acid flake should be stored in a cool, dry facility. Benzoic acid bag pallets should be stacked no more than two high to avoid excessive compression/bricking.
