Most of the latex adhesives made today are based on homopolymer polyvinyl acetate emulsion. The average plasticizer usage on homopolymer solids is about seventeen percent. About one third of the polymer used is copolymer, and on a solids basis, about eight to nine percent plasticizer is used in compounding copolymer. The major type of copolymer used is ethylene/vinyl acetate, but many other co- or terpolymers are commercially significant. Benzoates are the predominant plasticizers for this area.
